Pep Band Reflection: I performed at all of the required games and two volunteer games. I would say I should get a B+. I didn't go to all the volunteer games so I wouldn't give myself an A. At Pep band I try really hard most of the time because the songs are fun to play. I also mess up occasionally or just play until I have no breath at all so I cant play for a second. I would say that Pep band is an important element of the Newark band. It gives us variety of what were playing, instead of just concert music and scales we get to learn a variety of other songs. It gives us a different environment to play in instead of just the band room or the gym we get to play at a basketball game surrounded by a ton of people on the bleachers on the stage. It gives us a way to help the school. I would say my favorite three pep band songs are Wipeout, Land of A thousand Dances, and I Get Around. Wipeout is One of my favorites because of the melody I play from 16-24 and at some other points of the song. That part is really cool to play and it really gets my fingers and my lips moving when going from high to low. Land of A Thousand Dances is one of my favorite songs to play because part I play from 21-27 and 43-49. It is because it doesn't require a lot of finger movement but it basically only requires articulation. I get around is on of my favorites because of the song it is. My three least favorite would have to be Eye of the Tiger, because that same repeating pattern is kinda hard to keep in sync with everyone. Frozen, It doesn't really sound like the actually song in my opinion. All I do is win, because of the ending which I was confused about until recently. One are I have improved upon this year was from 16 to 29 in Wipout. If I would want a song added it would be The Trooper by Iron Maiden. Not sure if it would sound cool but i think it would be cool to play.
Concert music First Impressions Rejoice the Season- There is a time signature change at 37 from 4/4 to 3/4. From 20 to 23 tit is the same as O christmas tree. At 37 it turns into G minor. At 104 the rhythm is the same as at the beginning. There is a grand pause at 72. How the Grinch Stole Christmas Concert Medley- Lots of accidentals throughout the whole song. At 31 it turns into a swing rhythm. At 6 and 12 through 14 there is a weird 8th note 8th rest off beat rhythm. At 19 the is a time signature change from 4/4 to 2/4 for one measure. Once in Royal David's City- There are time signature changes in 14, 19, 28, 44, 53, from 4/4 to 2/4. From 46 to 49 there is a fast ascending and descending rhythm. At 21 and 37 there are Key signature changes. Christmas Eve- There is a quarter note and 8th note rhythm that is from 11 to 18. That same rhythm is also from 31 to 34 and 107 to 122. There is a weird rhythm from 19 to 30. There is a descending scale like rhythm from 54 to 58, and 62 to 70. From 123 to 126 there is a fast ascending rhythm that gets very high. That same rhythm is from 139 to 142 but it starts much lower so it doesn't go as high.
Major/Minor Relatives: In Major/Minor Relatives the 6th note/ the La of the major scale is the tonic of the Minor scale. The key signature of the Major scale is also the key signature of the Minor scale. 9/11 Reflection: This years 9/11 performance was really good. The setup of this years 9/11 ceremony was much better then last years. It didn't sound like anything went wrong in america the beautiful, I think we stayed on tempo pretty well. The banner was how we usually play it very good with very little to no error.
Smart Music Score: My baseline score is 41%. Smart Music Scales- Bb:100% gm:100% Eb:100% cm:100% F:93% dm:100% For individual performance I did very well. The only scale I didnt get 100% on was F. The reason I didnt get F 100% was because of a missed fingering. I can work alot more to learn my fingerings This set of scales I would say I know very well are Bb, Eb and their relative minors I have down completely while F and dm could still use a little more memorization. For memorization I know the first 3 scales and their relative minors very well. I need to work on memorizing concert.
I have a band goal for the year. I need to work on recognizing key signatures and applying them to my music. I also would like to work on learning more major scales. The final goal is I would like to increase my range with my instrument.
